Hi, minimum eligibility for Ph.D. is post graduation degree. Admission to the Ph.D. programmes is made on the basis of written test / interview conducted by the Department / Centre concerned. Most of the reputed institutes/universities require qualifying through JRF conducted by UGC & CSIR/ GATE / JEST or equivalent exam. By qualifying JRF you can have scholarship as well as exempted for NET exam for lecturer ship. Some institutes might have some additional eligibility criteria and selection procedure, which can be found out from the institute. Applications are invited from candidates by advertising the programmes in Employment News / leading Newspapers in the March for the first semester and in October for the second semester, every year. Some of the reputed institutes offering the course are: Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, http://www.tifr.res.in/admissions, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune(www.iiserpune.ac.in), University of Pune,  www.unipune.ac.in/, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Hyderabad, http://mathstat.uohyd.ernet.in/courses.html, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Website: www.bhu.ac.in, National Institute of Technology Rourkela, Malviya National Institute of Technology, Periyar University, Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), ISI (Indian Statistical Institute), Kolkata ,University of Delhi, School of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, IIT Guwahati. Wish you all the best. You may also explore Indira Gandhi National Open University, (New Delhi) for PhD in Mathematics through distance learning. Depending upon your specialization and based on availability and other eligibility criteria you can get enrolled in this program. In general minimum qualification for PhD is post graduation degree. Hope this helps. Good luck.

vijay64240 I have a similar interest, I went through a few south indian universities and found the curriculum of IGNOU would be best suited for computer science graduates.
They all require a B.Sc qualification. I am planning to get one as their B.Sc curriculum is also useful to computer scientists.

Here is a comparison between B.Sc and M.Sc course list of IGNOU
MTE-01 Calculus 4
MTE-02 Linear Algebra 4
MTE-04 Elementary Algebra 2
MTE-05 Analytical Geometry 2
MTE-06 Abstract Algebra 4
MTE-07 Advanced Calculus 4
MTE-08 Differential Equations 4
MTE-09 Real Analysis 4
MTE-10 Numerical Analysis 4
MTE-11 Probability and Statistics 4
MTE-12 Linear Programming 4
MTE-13 Discrete Mathematics 4
MTE-14 Mathematical Modelling 4
MTE-03 Mathematical Methods 4

MMT-001 Programming & Data Structure 4
MMT-002 Linear Algebra 2
MMT-003 Algebra 4
MMT-004 Real Analysis 4
MMT-005 Complex Analysis 2
MMT-006 Functional Analysis 4
MMT-007 Differential Equations & Numerical Solutions 4
MMT-008 Probability and Statistics 8
MMT-009 Mathematical Modelling 2
MMTE-001 Graph theory 4
MMTE-002 Design and Analysis of Algorithms 4
MMTE-003 Pattern Recognition & Image Processing 4
MMTE-004 Computer Graphics 2
MMTE-005 Coding Theory 4
MMTE-006 Cryptography 4
MMTE-007 Soft Computing and Its Applications 4
MMTP-001 Project Work 4

clearly programming, algorithms, soft computing, computer graphics are redundant for B.E comp science

Unless you have a specific interest in coding theory/ cryptography/ pattern recognition
i find the B.Sc course to be as good an option.

Of course you will have to wait for 3 more years to join for masters

If the primary requirement is a masters degree certificate on the other hand, you may as well enroll with a 1/2 yr comp science course and finish it up

last date to enroll at IGNOU for this year is july 31
