Hi,
Although SMU is approved by UGC & DEC I would suggest that if you are looking for a good career growth you should first try for a decent Regular MBA program. If in case you are not in a position to go for regular MBA then only should opt for Distance program as distance program holds very little value in the job market (whether Govt or private sector). The first preference is always given to Regular Candidates.
However, if you want to go for Distance learning programs there are several other options available which you can explore:
Annamalai,
IMT,
Anna University,
Algappa University,
University of Madras,
Bangalore University,
Pondich

Nitesh, from your question what I could gauge is that you wanted to know whether the theoretical aspects are important or practical aspects of mechanical engineering.
If this is the question then my experience says that both theoretical and practical knowledge are important & work in tandem with each other. For few years after completing engineering, your theoretical fundamentals would support the practical knowledge that you will gain at your work place. With experience your practical fundamentals would gain strength over the theoretical ones and at times you will find that some theories do not work as directly as they they have been

Dear student,
Though the theoretical knowledge is always necessary, and you being in Mechanical Engineering will find a number of subjects in your curriculum and so you should focus on the ones that interest you.
The necessary practical exposure is what you will get during Summer Training in Companies and that is more than sufficient.
In the meantime you can opt for some mechanical curses in some institutes or by self-study to give your self an extra edge.
