After diploma in mechanical engineering, am I eligible to pursue aeronautical engineering?

Normally speaking, one needs diploma in the particular branch to be eligible for admission in engineering in that particular branch. However, many states and Institutions including IIT's accept diploma as equivalent to 12th and hence you can take admission to any branch of your choice in first year, after following due process.
