6 years agoIt is not compulsory that you opt for Maths, but I would recommend you to do, sure it will be hard for you to manage Maths with Commerce, but it will give you edge over the others. And, as you said you want to get into IIM, for that you have to crack CAT that is purely aptitude exam, and if you have Maths, it will surely be a plus point for you. Actually, it looks Maths is quite tough, but if you give it some time and make your basic concepts strong, it can be your strong point, and when you have such high dreams don't get afraid by these small barrier. Maths is very important, because if you want to go in IIM in CAT, you need to have more focus on Maths, because CAT pattern is 34 question for English, 33 question for LR and DI 34 question for quant that is Maths, so you need to be in touch with Maths, if you want to clear CAT. And, if you want admission in IIM, then you must score more than 99 percentile in CAT.

No, you can take any stream. MBA can be pursued, if you have a Bachelor's degree with 50% marks. I am an engineer, and now pursuing MBA from Doon Business School, Dehradun. The placements have been consistent over the years.

No, it is not mandatory. You can do MBA if you are a graduate in any field.

It's definitely not compulsory to opt for maths in order to pursue a career in commerce and later go for MBA. But as it is said, Rome wasn't built in a day. IIMs only accept CAT scores and for CAT, your quant (maths) needs to be very strong. Make sure even when you don't opt for maths, you should be able to practise it during CAT preparations.
All the best.
