1. What is Nautical Science? Nautical science refers to the basic knowledge which is required to safely navigate and operate a ship. The subjects include navigation and seamanship. About the course The three year B.SC Nautical Science is a course which is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, which falls under the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. The three year B.SC course is strictly residential. 2. Is there a difference between marine engineering and nautical science? Yes, there is a difference between marine engineering and nautical science. Marine engineering makes an individual a ship's engineer whereas nautical science trains a person to become a deck officer.
