No, you cannot make it to any NIT without appearing or clearing JEE Mains, you have to clear or appear in the JEE main exam.

No, you cannot make it to any NIT without appearing or clearing JEE Mains. There is an exception for you if you're an NRI student and can get admitted through DASA scheme in which you have to write the SAT 2 exam and pay DASA fees which is 5 times the normal fees.

For the admission into any NIT you should have a minimum of 75% in board exams. And they don't look for a top score in board exams for admission. May be in a tie breaker they may look for it. You need to clear JEE Mains with a good score to get any NIT.
