You should appear for JEE mains first, if you clear that exam then you should appear JEE advance.

You may appear for JEE advance next year after writing JEE main. Your board marks will not be counted in AIR from 2017 onwards.

To appear for JEE advance 2017, first of all you should either have appeared in your boards in 2017 or 2016. Then, you should clear JEE mains. From next year onwards, your boards percentage won't be counted in your AIR.

According to the new criteria for JEE mains, you require 75% and above and also top 20 percentile.
    Best of luck.
