Do other competing institutes like IIM's have an edge as FMS doesn't have a good foreign exchange program for MBA?

Hi Maneesha, While IIMs certainly have their foreign exchange programs, it has its own strengths and the same has reflected through its prolific placement record and performance of recent alumni in the corporate world. Also, FMS has its summer school program where you can study abroad for 4-6 weeks in the month of June between your two years of MBA.

The B-school rankings would definitely point towards IIM A, however, there are certain factors that you need to be sure of before you go for an MBA. The question everyone would be asking you throughout the entire process - from your entrance interviews to your final placement interviews - Why MBA? If getting placed in a good/great organization is on your priority list, you might prioritize one over the other. However, if becoming an entrepreneur is on your list of to-do things, and you have the discipline to work on your content sincerely while eking out time to focus on extracurricular / co-curricular activities, I personally feel it doesn't make much of a difference, considering that we are comparing two of the better institutes in the country. In case you are focused on going for a corporate job post MBA, if would then boil down to your interest. If you are focused on marketing, I honestly feel there is not much of a difference between the profiles that IIM A and FMS offer. If you are focused on finance/operations/consulting, IIM A would definitely boost your chances of getting multiple shortlists. Another thing that you might have to consider is your relative profile compared to your peers and the batch size of the institute. Even if you have awesome companies coming on campus, you would be competing with the best. One might argue that as you are already in the same institute, how would it make you any lesser than your peers. The answer to that would be past academics, work experience (if any) and general personality traits.If you do not have a brilliant CV, it would make your profile seem lesser compared to your peers, many of whom would have a killer CV, thus decreasing your prospects. Consider this example: College X gets 5 top companies on campus each of which takes 1 candidate and there are 10 CVs better than yours on the table while another college Y gets only 2 top companies on campus each of which takes 1 candidate but there are only 2 CVs better than yours. This point might be slammed for being pessimistic but then, when the organization compares you to others, you have to do the same to get to know your chances. ROI would come into the picture however frivolous it might seem to be. One would definitely realize the value of it post MBA when shelling Rs. 25-30k per month for the next 5-7 years might seem a bit too taxing.
