How are the placements of B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from SASTRA University?

I wish placement had a universal objective KPI but unfortunately, currently, it is measured in terms of the number of students who get offer letter at the end of the degree. Measuring just quantity without measuring the quality lead to biased insights. The mechanical stream is a very promising stream. There are hardly any good product companies such as Flipkart or housings visiting the campus nor are there Google and Linkedin nor are there any start ups being run by Alumni nor is anyone starting any company on the campus. However, you don't have to worry about getting a job in TCS for which SASTRA held the world record for highest campus placements for some time. So, to put long story short, if you have options to join any such college where you will get opportunity to get interview with Google or Flipkart then please join there and if you are shit scared about the prospect of getting 'placed' itself then SASTRA is the right place for you where you don't have to worry about getting an INR 3 lacs job for the rest of your 4-years.

SASTRA University is located in Thanjavur and it is accredited by NAAC. It is ranked 65 in the list of top colleges of India by 'the week'. It is well known for its good infrastructure knowledgeable faculty with experience of teaching and many facilities like Wi-Fi Sports Complex and labs with better equipments and machines. According to the reviews of the students Sastra University placement of B.Tech students in mechanical engineering are not very good. According to the students about 20 to 25% students get placed in the core companies and rest of the students gets placed in the non-core companies which are mass recruiter like TCS, Accenture, etc. You have to study hard to be in that 20 to 25% students and to get good placements in core companies. Due to the students getting placed in mass recruiter companies they provide only the average salary to the students of mechanical engineering. Students who get placed in core companies have a good salary rate. Average salary provided to the students of mechanical engineering is about 4 lakh per annum. Highest salary provided to the students is about 20 lakh per annum. Hope it helps.

Mechanical engineering and electronics and communication engineering are the most sought out branches at Sastra University every year. The college has managed to maintain a reputation for excellence in placements over the years having some really admirable faculty and providing students with research opportunity for those who are interested in the same. Coming to placements, more than 40 students got placed in core companies with an average placement package of 6 Lacs which is really great for a private university. Almost 85% of the total batch got placed this year comma with the highest package being offered was 22 Lacs for mechanical branch. Other than core companies, students manage to get jobs at IT companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, and others if they are unable to get one at the former. At academics, the college is just an average college but the training and placement cell gives full support to students right from the first year to guide them as to how to crack placement interviews. SASTRA University is a private university located in the extreme end of South India. Though it is an old university, it does not get a very nice placement record in the 4th year. Students only above 8 and 9 CGPA are allowed to sit in the campus drives and there are very rare or almost no students touching the placement record of 10 LPA. Most of the students there are working in companies such as TCS, Wipro and Infosys. All I want to say is that the chances of global placements are very less. Also, you need to do hard work for getting into a multinational company. Sometimes entering an MNC will not get you a very good package. For mechanical students, one should have thorough knowledge about the working model of an appliance and the automobile. The knowledge should be focussed related to stream and one should have great presentation skills. The average placement there is around 2 or 3 LPA for UG students and some may get 5 LPA but more than that is exceptional. Thank you. Take a wise decision.

There's a funny saying- if you get admit into SASTRA, you are a future TCS employee. Every year, atleast 80% of all engineering students get into TCS. And some companies are CGPA biased. Above 8.0 or 8.5 will allow you to sit in some good companies like Ashok Leyland, EBay, etc. So, get above 8.0 and it's almost a guarantee that youll get a job. The core companies that are hitting sastra for mechanical dept is very less probably three or four not more than that and to place in such companies you need to bag up with lot of technical stuff and a bit of Quants and the recruitment is purely based on the technical stuff of that person if the persons performance is exemplary then he'll be selected if not he'll be out of that, these companies hardly recruit some 57 members not more than that so don't keep that much expectations because the competition is very tough(10/260).This is one scenario the other is completely different which you never dreamt of it's nothing but TCS hope you guys are well aware of this organisation the only way for most of the mechies to get placed is the TCS so my adivce to all the mechies out there who are dreaming day and nights to get placed in a reputed organisation you have to put your body and soul to get placed in that if not shun all your expectations.

Sastra University in Tamil Nadu is known for its astounding placement record, as the only students who do not get placed here are the ones who opt for higher studies and therefore do not participate in the placement drive. They therefore maintain a placement record of 95%. There are a large number of companies which are associated with mechanical engineering, namely: Aeronautical Development Agency Ashok Leyland B.H.E.L. (Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited) Bhabha Atomic Research Centre Caritor Caterpillar India Pvt. Ltd. Energy Solutions International Ltd. Hindustan Motors Ltd. Reliance Petrochemicals Hyundai Motors Ltd. Madras Aluminum Company (MALCO) Mahindra & Mahindra Maruti Udyog Ltd. TVS Motors and many more. Even if you don't possess the skills relevant to these companies, there are Information Technology (IT) companies which recruit you. These companies include Accenture, TCS, Wipro Technologies, L&T Infotech, etc. The list is endless and you will definitely get placed in one if there companies. The average salary package here is 4.5-6 lakhs per annum while the highest package has gone up to as much as 29 lakhs per annum, by PayPal. I hope this answers most of your queries if not all.
