    One might think that being a fresher would be a disadvantage for a candidate appearing for UPSC exam. However in every batch there are officers who have cleared the exam in the very first attempt, even the toppers are sometimes come from this list of first timers. It's therefore important to see what they have done right with respect to the exam. In my observation some of the common factors emerge if we see at all those selections. No, the Commission do not mention any Minimum Qualifying Marks for the General Studies Paper 1. But there is a criteria of Minimum 33 % for the General Studies Paper 2 (Aptitude) paper.
