Syndicate Groups, also known as Study Groups or Learning Teams, at GIBS Business School allow students to learn cooperatively and experience teamwork and collaborative learning in the classroom. Instead of only studying alone, students are placed into small teams to complete case studies, group assignments, presentations, class discussions, projects and simulations which provide students with an opportunity to develop the necessary teamwork and communication skills needed to succeed in corporate environments.
Typically, faculty or academic coordinators will create the Group allocations at the beginning of the programme based on class balance, background diversity and strengths. This is done so that students have time to develop relationships and establish trust with their teammates before they enter into a corporation setting.
Should you wish to switch to a different syndicate group, changes may be allowed in certain circumstances, such as conflicts within your current team, imbalances in contribution to the group or other legitimate issues; however this is not automatic and you will typically need to:
- Contact your Faculty Mentor or Academic Coordinator regarding the concerns
- Provide a detailed explanation of the reason (s) for requesting the change.
- Seek approval from the Academic Office
Final approval is at the discretion of the Faculty, Academic Coordinator, and Academic Office.
