    It solely depends on your choice. See, being an engineer, you can go in the research departments like BARC, DRDO, ISRO, etc. At the end of the day, the crux is to gain supremacy in the subject which you have joined and you should love it.

    At what stage you want to shift? Have you already got a job as an engineer? Shifting to pure science will be tough because already it has limited scope and many candidates. You will have to replace already established workers. Shifting is advisable only if you have explored the options thoroughly in this new field.

    First thanks to Monisha that she raised this issue.
    Now a days switching over of jobs has increased.
    What i personally believe people are giving importance to "peace of mind" over " money" but it is with 32 + guys.
    Right now if someone is planning to shift from engineering to pure science than first try to know the "reason" behind it," whether its frustration of existing job or much better scope than that.
    I personaly believe shifting is not bad if you have already acquired a " back up". First make an alternate then only switch. Not only from engineering but from any job if anyone is planning to shift .make a back up.

    If you think you can do well in that field than you should shift. Try for msc courses of IISc or ISRO. All the best.
