You are completely new to the engineering world. The first year is just an advanced level of class 11&12th so, just chill. You will be introduced to the engineering subjects in your 2nd year. The ideal time to start the preparations for GATE is the 3rd year. Start preparing for GATE from the 3rd year of graduation. Get the syllabus of subjects of your branch related to GATE from it's official website. Clear your concepts and practice ample amount of problems. You can also join a coaching institute for proper guidance and mentorship.
    Good luck.

Keep going with your academics with proper studies, because in GATE you will be facing the engineering mathematics subject which are currently studying in the first and second year of B.Tech. Just start preparing when your 4 semester will starts. Keep track on the syllabus and pattern of the GATE paper every year. Just keep practicing the question of the paper. Download it for the NET. Just do the self studies only. And keep do studies with concentration. Because the syllabus is only your academics. Mainly from the 1-3 year of subjects and o

You can start studying whenever you want depending on the time you can devote to it and your concentration. You can only give GATE exams while in your final year or after it. I would suggest you start from now itself.

The GATE Exam 2026 fellowship at Chandigarh University is credited on a monthly basis during the eligible fellowship months. Students receive the Rs 12,500 amount each month, subject to fulfilling teaching duties and maintaining satisfactory academic performance. The payment is not made semester-wise or as a lump sum. Students who are not appearing for GATE 2026 will not receive this fellowship but can continue their M.E. programme without any difference in academic structure or evaluation.

Yes, Chandigarh University will definitely consider your profile if you have strong B.Tech marks, even if you are not appearing for GATE Exam 2026. GATE is not mandatory for M.E. admission, and academic performance plays a crucial role in eligibility assessment. Students with high graduation percentages can secure admission based on merit and may also qualify for scholarships based on graduation marks, subject to availability. These scholarships are offered independently of GATE and reward consistent academic performance.
