"Petroleum engineering at UPES is one of the most sought-after courses in the country. There are only 100 seats available for this course, so the competition is stiff. To get admission into UPES for Petroleum Engineering, you need to meet the following eligibility criteria:
Examination Pathway admissions through UPES-EAT (Up to 80% of Seats so 80 seats out of 100)
    Minimum 60% marks at Higher & Senior Secondary level (10th & 12th)
Minimum 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics at Senior Secondary level (12th)
Non-Examination Pathway admissions through JEE Mains Score (Up to 20% of Seats):
    JEE Main Merit Pathway

First of all, your percentage is perfect, but for admission in UPES you need to appear in JEE Mains and qualify it with a good percentile or you have to appear in its CET, which is conducted by the college itself. Good Luck.

I am not quite sure of Petroleum Engineering programme at UPES but I must say Petroleum Engineering is purely centered on integrated approaches of Sciences and Engineering practices in the Oil & Gas Industry. This involves technological undertakings and emphasis of the same in the application of the concepts in Petroleum Exploration, Drilling, Production, Reservoir Engineering, Pipeline Engineering, Refinery Operations, LNG Value Chain, Petrochemicals and Natural Gas Processing. Students in the petroleum engineering programme will be engaged on a holistic journey of the entire value chain of the O&G Industry beginning from the explorat

UPES conducts its own entrance examination. You can qualify that exam and get admission in UPES.

    Hi,
That depends on the course you want to pursue. Also, now every college conducts an entrance exam for admissions.

    Hello Aparna,
These days admissions to engineering colleges is mostly through entrance exam only. Very few private deemed universities allow admissions based on marks of 12th. But here you need to be merit holder. Hence for admission in UPES, you will need to appear for appropriate entrance exam.

A gap of 1 to 2 years after 12th can be considered normal. Although the students should be able to address it via the valid documents. The reasons like health, finance, skill development or family are accepted.

And if the gap after the high school Diploma is beyond 2 years, strong documentation is required to justify the same. The documents like which shows productivity for which an SOP can serve great purposes.

Yes, it should not be hard for you to get admission to the University of Western Australia as an Indian student with 50% in class 12th. However, please note that it does not put you in the top applicants either. The general admission percentage requirement for international students is 50 to 65%.

Look at the other admission requirements -

  • English proficiency tests with IELTS (bands 6.5) or TOEFL iBT (82+)
  • High school Diploma from a recognised board like CBSE or ICSE etc.
  • Some course-specific subjects for Engineering programs

Top universities require a minimum of 80-90% in your 12th-grade board exams.

  • Average universities often accept students with 60-75%.
  • For highly competitive courses like Medicine, cut off is usually higher.
  • Strong SAT/ACT scores can also compensate for a slightly lower board percentage.

Countries like Germany and Norway are excellent options. Because public universities there charge little to no tuition fees.  The cost of living and education is significantly lower compared to the USA or UK. You must factor in living expenses and language requirements.

Class 12 marks are important for fulfilling the admission criteria and tie breaking criteria (if any) during admissions. Admission to Central Universities are conducted through CUET scores, however, candidates must fulfil the minimum marks requirement for admissions.
