I think you should go by your interest if you are interested in automobile than go with automobile otherwise mechanical but according to my point of view, you should choose mechanical engineering because you'll get so many job opportunity in private sector as well as government sector too but please choose as per your interest.

B.Tech in mechanical engineering is much better than automobile. Mechanical engineering covers all aspects of the mechanical study that are available. Automobile is strictly confined course. As others have said, mechanical placements are also better. That does't mean that automobile is bad or whatsoever.
