No it is not compulsory but it is advisable to give CAT as it is accepted by most top b schoold in the country. U can also give other management papers such as CMAT MAT XAT SNAP IIFT IBSAT -
It can be CAT or its equivalent such as MAT, CMAT, ATMA-AIMS or other equivalents, as applicable to the institute or as mentioned in the prospectus of the institute. There are deemed universities that conduct their own aptitude tests.

9 years agoYes, if you are only eyeing for IIM's . Other institutes can also go for MAT, XAT etc -
yes CAT is only compulsory for only all the IIM colleges ,but for other colleges except IIM there are many more exams like MAT,XAT,XAM and lots more. -
