Is it necessary to get good marks in JEE Mains?

It isn't mandatory and how can it be so. If you want to get into prestigious institutions, you have to get good scores. It's simple.

For getting admission in LPU, it is not important to get good in JEE Mains. You can get admission through your class 12th percentage i.e minimum 60% is required.

Practically, JEE Mains is more important than JEE Advanced. In Advance, the paper is very tough and one has very less chances of qualifying the exam doesn't matter how hard one has prepared. One manages to clear it, still one has problems of getting the desired branch in the college of choice. Moreover, in JEE Mains, the paper is very simple, one has high chances of qualifying it and the scores are accepted in all the top colleges and deemed universities of India be it NIT's, IIIT's, almost all high-end state and autonomous universities. So if you score above 240, in JEE Mains, you almost have a very decent 4 years may be critical if not. So, JEE Mains is the most important exam for a PCM student. Hope it helps.
