My son scored 21800 rank in JEE Mains. Will he get a good option in CSE or mechanical or does he have to go VIT-Vellore for CSE?

With this rank CSE is only possible in NITs having the lowest rank. I would suggest sending your son into VIT Vellore. It is having a rank above BITS, Pilani in NIRF 2018 ranking and is really doing well in CSE.

He has to go with VIT Vellore for CS as it is better than new NIT as there are chances to get new NITs at 21800 otherwise he has to compromise with other branches which is not a good option.

You don't study in NIT because NIT has limited seats, so I suggested you for CS in VIT or LPU.

Mostly all good NITs have their CS seats closed at 8k, so only lower NITs shall be available. So, VIT is a good option.

Sir/ Madam, CSE may not in there in a very good college in the 1st or 2nd round. Mechanical may be possible though. However, I urge to use Shiksha college predictor and fill in your details. It shall give you your desired answer. Also, try to hold the CSE seat at VIT till the maximum you can because that is also a pretty good option and is better than most of the good government colleges. https://www.shiksha.com/b-tech/resources/jee-mains-college-predictor
This is the link to Shiksha college predictor. Given any college from here you are in same hands. So its a choice between good and better. All the best!
