Should I opt for mechanical engineering in my graduation or pursue automobile engineering?

It is the best to pursue mechanical engineering at the graduation level. Firstly, its one of those 'perpetual' branches for which job prospects will always be available. Secondly, after obtaining degree in this branch, possibilities are endless if you want to do PG. Automobiles is of course possible. But you never know what situation would be when you want to take the plunge. Many more exciting offers may be available. On the other hand if you opt for Automobile Engineering at Graduation level, your options for PG get really limited. Hence my advise, go for mechanical engineering without any hesitation. -
Yes, you can do it. Mechanical engineering is the study about machines and automobile engineering is also a similar branch, so you can do it.

However as per National Education Policy, once a student gets admission, after 12th board, once the students complete two years, they will be entitled to receive diploma.
