Should I opt for part-time Ph.D in psychology or pursue part-time M.Phil in psychology?
Which is the best institute in Karnataka to pursue the same? I have completed MS in counselling and psychotherapy.

Hi,
The MPhil is a less advanced qualification than the PhD in which the student is expected to master a content area and can be completed in two years' full-time study. The MPhil dissertation is normally shorter than the PhD thesis. It is often used as a training course in advanced research work and can be a preliminary stage for the PhD where it is necessary to learn the fundamentals of research and acquire new techniques, although more and more the newly introduced M.Res. is being used for this purpose. The MPhil is also a legitimate higher degree qualification in its own right.

It depends on for what purpose you are doing the Ph.D or M.Phil course, but for experience or learning, it is better to do M.Phil.

You'd need an M.Phil under an institution recognized by RCI to practice as a clinical psychologist. With a Ph.D. you can teach in colleges and universities, but can't practice. In my view, if you have a passion for both practicing and teaching, you can do an M.Phil and then a Ph.D. I hope it helps.
