Yes, SRM preferably allows students who get merit rank through srmjee. You don't have to display your JEE scores. In case you fail to qualify the SRMJEE you have to take your admission through management quota which will be costly for you. -

It is not compulsory, but if you will give I think there will be some rebate in fee structure. Once go through SRMJEE portal and have a look of criteria.
