What are the branches that I can get through GATE for architecture and planning?

B.Plan (Bachelors in planning) or B.Arch (Bachelors in architecture), construction and project management are the streams you may choose if you qualify GATE for architecture and planning.

If you are concerned about the package, then go for M.Des in IIT-Kanpur. Microsoft offered someone INR. 20 lacs this year. Other e-commerce companies are there too offering good package. IIT-Delhi and Bombay has M.Des too, but you need to crack CEED exam for that. Now, coming to core courses, IIT KGP has Masters in City planning programme, top choice for many if they want to study planning in India. One of the best in the country (I’m telling this keeping in mind SPA & CEPT). I personally know so many with ranks below 30 and even in single digit. Now if you want to study construction management then you have IIT Delhi and IIT Chennai. IT is an M.Tech course designed for civil engineers, where Architects are eligible. Rank should be within 15, because only 2 seats are available for Architects in each institute. Recently, in 2008 IIT-Kharagpur has started a new course. Masters in Infrastructure design and management. It's a department managed by faculty from Archi and civil depts. slowly and steadily the dept. Picked up with a phenomenal achievement of 100% placement this year (2016). It's more interlinked with Architecture because KGP has Archi dept. Unlike IIT Delhi/Chennai. And it is not hardcore construction management. You can take up subjects related to project management/finance at the same time subjects related to planning too in your optional. Note: placements have dropped in infrastructure design and management with only one person getting placed out of 24. Please don't join only for placement. Few people opt for urban design / transportation / Building engineering and management in Spa Delhi, which are equally good. But, Spa has only 5% weightage of GATE score. Interview, work experience/ and written exam conducted by spa has the rest of the weightage. Architects are also eligible in Transportation engineering depts of IIT-Delhi/ Chennai, but generally no one study that. It is better to pursue transport planning from spa Delhi.
