What is the best preparation strategy for reading comprehension in CAT?

I will share in detail how I prepared for RC for CAT. Before beginning, I will like to reveal my percentile in VA in CAT. It was 97.07percentile. So by no means, I am a VA guru. But, still I will take a dig at this answer as RC was the only topic I practiced extensively for CAT. Since you are specifically focusing on RC, that clearly means it is a weak topic for you and something which you won't be motivated to do. Such topics are best done as the first thing in the morning when you sit to study or during the peak of your performance cycle. This will ensure maximum focus from your side. Build the vocabulary: - The most important skill for RC is a good vocabulary. Of course, you don't need to be a literature pundit but lacking in vocabulary will cost you dearly. This comes in handy during RC passages in CAT. The best way to do that is to learn frequent words as provided in various books for CAT preparation. For eg. Arun Sharma has high/medium/low frequency words. Learn all the high frequency ones at least, most of the medium frequency and leave the low frequency words (unless you have a lot of time and nothing else to prepare). Also, read The Hindu editorials (read the newspapers print edition, their app doesn't have full articles), Scroll Editorials (app is sufficient), The Economist articles and The Indian Express editorials and mark the words of which you don't know the meaning. I will advice you to read them during the time when you feel bored or want to take a break or while travelling. Preferably during time when you don't waste crucial productive hours on reading such stuff. 5 word rule: - Once you come across a word, search its meaning on phone and bookmark it, learn 5 new words daily. I am sure you will come across 5 new words daily. If you come across more, no problem choose 5 in alphabetical order. Also, you can just open the app where you bookmarked your words and revise them when you are travelling or whenever you are free. Reading different genre: - Even though most coaches/teachers highly advice to read from different genres (philosophy, history, arts, GK, politics, literature. ). As this might give you an edge in the RC to have exposure to different jargons specific to different fields, but all that is. Well. *. No matter how much you are into reading different genres, if you don't develop ability to analyze, all your energies going into reading will be a waste of your time.
