  • Urban Planning and Urban Design are important topics in the course curriculum of M.Plan. Urban Planning is the process of planning the infrastructure of a region, especially a city or developed area. Urban Design involves the implementation of the plan keeping in mind the aesthetic and functionality of the spaces.

The differences between Urban Planning and Urban Design are as follows:

    Urban Planning

    Urban Design

They work on a wider spatial region such as a locality, city or district.

Their work is confined to narrow spaces such as building lanes, parks or pools.

The primary focus is on the utility of the plan.

The primary focus is on the aesthetics along with the functionality of the design.

The process of urban planning is usually done on a two-dimensional level.

The process of urban design is usually done on a three-dimensional level.

It offers long-term solutions to unplanned or ill-planned spaces.

It offers short-term solutions to spaces lacking design elements in them.
