What is the effectiveness of the placement cell for After 10th Diploma programs at Hooghly Institute of Technology?

The way HETC admissions through JELET are conducted.

HETC admits JELET to lateral entry (i.e. to 2nd year) with a Diploma in engineering/ technology.


With 2024 counselling, HETC B.Tech (lateral) courses were ranked last with the general-category, with most courses ranging from in the range of 7760-7916 (across branches) to allocate seats.

Caution 410 rank is probably not high enough.

410 is a far better position than 7760 - however, JELET ranking is such that the lower the rank the better the merit. Wait, that is that 410 is higher merit than 7760.

However — there's a catch. The announced range of the scale of the rank that was used to rank in the lateral-entry seats of HETC implies that only individuals whose JELET rank was at or below 7900 were offered a seat in 2024. As 410 falls comfortably within that, one would say on that basis that 410 also should be eligible.

BUT - I had a look at several reputable cut-off lists without basing my conclusions on them and did not find Chemical Engineering on any of the lateral-entry lists of HETC. HETC appears to have B.Tech programs of traditional admission (WBJEE / JEE Main) - and lateral entry programs, to which they have few branches.


In addition, cutoffs are dependent on branches, seat-availability, number of applicants. The fact that the overall cutoff range among courses was 7760-7916 does not necessarily mean that Chemical Engineering had positions of lateral entry in your year.

My Position — You may, but you have no chances.

With JELET rank = 410:

You are high in merit position - that is in your favour.

However, since the degree of Chemical Engineering might not be offered at HETC at that time as a lateral entry option, or even seats might be looked at in some other branch, there is no assurance that you will have that branch.
