Indian Institute of Technology at Guwahati was established in 1994 in Guwahati in Assam. This was established so that students of seven sisters get an IIT nearer to their home. The next step was establishment of department of design. Idea was to train students in India itself who will be experts in varied and different aspects of industrial design.
