7 years agoBoth, ECE and mechanical engineering are good branches. Mechanical is core and old branch, while ECE is comparatively new. However, ECE is having a boost in coming days placement sector due to digitalization in India. Also, the packages for ECE are better than mechanical, but a bit less stability. So, you have to decide, good package or better stability. It sometimes takes time in mechanical branch to get settled at a high post for better income. Also, muscular work is done in this stream.
As far as your aggregate score, it should be more than the cut off of the companies, these days it is around 8/10 (CGPA) for all engineering branches...more -
Choosing a stream entirely depends on your interest. If you are interested towards electronics and like to work in the field of electronics, you can choose ECE. And the placements are also good in ECE. Else, if your interest is towards the mechanical stream, you can take mechanical engineering.

B.Tech stream depend upon your interest that what type of thinking of yours so first think about it and choose like if you want to go for construction, surveying, irrigation, roads, railways, dams, bridge, etc. you can choose civil engineering. (I am also pursuing civil engineering from GNDEC, came in top in Punjab).
If you are interest in machines then you can choose mechanical engineering. If you are interested in computer and software then you can choose CSE, etc.
