Don't go with which stream is better. Go with what you want to do after studying B.Tech. You may take the following considerations. If you like a computer, want to build crazy applications or something related to software go with Computer Science and Engineering. If you like playing with machines/motors or electricity go ahead with Mechanical engineering or electrical engineering. After studying electronics and communication engineering most of the students gets job/work in IT companies. Only a few get a chance in electronics companies. So, I would suggest better to study Computer Science and Engineering. If you want to sail through va

They're both Science-oriented jobs, but that's about all mechanical engineering and computer programming have in common as far as job description. Mechanical engineers design new devices or materials for countless uses in areas ranging from medicine to aerospace. They might draw up plans for a new hip-replacement joint, build satellites or create wind turbines or solar panels. Programmers, on the other hand, write detailed instructions in electronic languages or codes to help computers complete operations. After they write code, programmers test their work. They also maintain existing programs. Good luck. Thank you.

What is your branch in Engineering graduation? That should decide your branch for GATE. If you are already doing your engg in Mech, GATE Mech will be only choice.
