There is neither exact syllabus nor any book for the preparation of civil service exams.
However, for preparation, coaching notes, current affairs, daily newspapers and other ideal books for UPSC is a boost for the preparation. Current affairs are very important. In this year's UPSC Prelims, more than 40 questions came from current affairs and also around 20 from ancient history and medieval. -
There is no single book for civil services. Books are for each subject like:
For GK- lucent is the best
For polity- lakshmikanth is the best.
