Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University is primarily merit-based. However, the university conducts entrance exams for admission to B.Ed, M.Ed and PhD programmes. Entrance exam is not mandatory for admission to B.Ed and M.Ed programmes. For all other courses, the selection is based on the qualifying exam scores of the candidates. Once selected, aspirants may further need to pass a personal interview round for some of the programmes.

The admissions at Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University (BKNMU) are based on different criteria depending on the course and the department. According to the official website of BKNMU, some of the admission criteria are as follows:

    - For UG courses, the admission is based on the merit of the higher secondary exam from an accredited board. For BPT, the admission is also based on the NEET scores.

    - For PG courses, the admission is based on the merit of the qualifying degree examination from an accredited university. For some courses, the admission is also based on the entrance test conducted by the university or the respective department.
