In most of the cases, the colleges make it compulsory for PhD scholars to take active part in the research workshops and seminars that take place either within the college setting or outside as it gives you an opportunity to learn something new, get in touch with other researchers, and know more about the research field in general across different disciplines. You can also get a chance to present your own research papers, hone your communication skills, and get some honest feedback from other scholars, which can help you improve and do better in the future.
