Are there any central government institutes like IITs offering Animation and Graphics courses?

Hi Well, NID does offer a course in animation design. It also has courses in communication/ new media. Although NID has not yet acknowledged the fields of 3D, VFX and gaming in their teaching. It would be a good course to learn pre-production theory. Animation is an art form and a very demanding career. It has ample opportunities for the creatively talented people. Opportunities lie in UI design, graphic design, storyboarding, animation design, game design, 3D modelling, texturing and lighting, dynamics and VFX and of course animation (2D and 3D). Of course at the top of the pile lies concept designing, these people are required by event companies, animation studios, VFX Studios, and of course game studios. However, choosing between these must be done after seeing your performance in each of these. So going for a generic course covering all or most of these would be the best way to get started in these careers. Typically you should have good sketching skills to be able to make a sound career in this (if you work hard you can improve your drawing skills tremendously). Nothing but your innermost talent and passion should lead you to the course and the institute you choose. Go speak to people over there and see if you like their philosophy and they change your perspective. Try their website for more details. Also remember that animation requires good mentoring. Hi Laxmi, Yes, IIT, IDC at Mumbai and Guwahati offers B.Des and M.Des programs. One of the specialization in M.Des is Animation Film design. Even NID offers the same. Admissions to both the institutions are via entrance exams. Even lot of private and deemed universities offer Bachelor/Master’s program in the sector. However, more than education, skill based segments like animation demands training by Industry Experts and exposure to live projects. Lot of universities have started B.Voc course in the field and NSDC offers national qualification framework as a benchmark in the sector.
