For admission, the institute follows particular reservation criteria for students from various categories such as OBC, SC, ST, PwD, and EWS. In addition to open category seats, following candidates are eligible for admission under their respective categories under the NID DAT reservation 2022. National Institute of Design reserves a portion of its seats for OBC (NCL), SC/ST, and PwD applicants. Furthermore, 10% of its B.Des/GDPD and M.Des seats are designated for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in all campuses accepting NID DAT 2023 applications.
To be eligible for the reservation, candidates must indicate their category on the NID DAT 2023 Application Form. Foreign nationals are given a 15% supernumerary seat. They are eligible for the Overseas category reservation. The merit list is provided separately by the authority based on reserved categories. Candidates seeking admission under the NID reservation must present the necessary documents at the time of admission. Furthermore, once an applicant has selected a category at the time of application form submission, he or she is not permitted to change it at any time. The category documents must also be supplied on time, since no candidate will be allowed provisional admission until the paperwork are submitted to the authorities.
Reserved Categories NID DAT 2023
All candidates applying for admission must indicate their category in the application form. Candidates from the Economically Backward Section, Other Backward Classes - Non-Creamy Layer, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and Foreign Nationals are given priority in admission to the courses.
Candidates who wish to seek a reservation must bring the following documents to the NID DAT 2023 Counselling:
- NID DAT 2023 Application Form Photocopy
- For B.Des and GDPD courses, original and sufficient photocopies of class 10th and 12th passing certificates and mark sheets are required.
- Originals and sufficient photocopies of Bachelor degree passing certificates and mark sheets for M.Des, as well as Class 10th and 12th passing certificates and mark sheets.
- Reservation certificates (if reservations are required)
- An adequate quantity of passport-size pictures.
- NID DAT 2023 Admit Card Photocopy provided for Design Aptitude Test, Studio Test, and Personal Interview
Candidates from the reserved categories who seek to take advantage of the reservation must present a stipulated caste/tribe certificate (preferably in English) from the competent authorities of the various states/union territories/national commission of tribes. Candidates in the OBC-NCL category, on the other hand, must have a prescribed caste certificate (preferably in English) from the competent authorities of the different states/union territories stating that they do not belong to the creamy layer. The OBC-NCL certificate will only be valid if obtained after April 1, 2023.
Reservation Policy for Differently Abled Categories in NID DAT 2023
The NID reservation policy also includes a provision for candidates from the Differently Abled categories to be reserved. Persons with Disabilities (PwD) would receive a 3% horizontal reservation of seats from the parent category in each programme, spanning all sections, including SCs, STs, OBCs (Non-Creamy only), and General. To qualify for the NID reservation, aspirants must have a 40% or higher category as per the regulations and guidelines set by the Government of India. Candidates seeking reservation under the PwD category must present a Disability Certificate issued by a competent authority.Medical Authority, Government of India, upon accepting the admissions offer.
NID DAT 2023 Foreign National Reservation Policy
The NID DAT 2023 reservation policy also includes a provision for candidates from countries other than India to be considered. Any candidate with a nationality other than the Republic of India is eligible to apply for the NID DAT 2023 reservation in the Overseas Category. In the B.Des. and M.Des. programmes, there is a provision for a 15% reservation of supernumerary seats. Candidates from the NRI (Non-Resident Indian) category would be needed to apply as Indian citizens. Foreign passport holders having a valid PIO or OCI status, on the other hand, have the option of applying under either the Indian or the overseas category. Candidates applying for the overseas category who have a valid PIO must pay the amount determined for Foreign Citizens.
