Arts/Humanities, Science, and Commerce are three distinct streams that students can choose after completing their 10th standard. Each stream has its own unique characteristics and provides different opportunities to students. Arts/Humanities stream focuses on the study of human society and culture, including history, languages, literature, philosophy, political Science, and sociology. It is an excellent stream for students who are interested in pursuing careers in areas such as teaching, journalism, media, law, civil services, social work, and the creative arts. Science stream focuses on the study of the natural world, including Physic...more

As a survey done by Oxford University, Indian parent believe in degree which have good job opportunity and in my view in India arts / humanities do not have good future, when we compare it with science or commerce. But, if you want to study in foreign countries like Italy or London, then one can make a good career in arts and humanities.

When we are comparing these streams one should keep in mind in which of them will a student excel? A student with high grade in arts will always have better career choice than one with low grade in science. Seeing the current trends my choice is commerce stream provided you are comfortable with numbers.

The reason for this mindset is Science students can go for Arts / BA course if they are interested in it. Same time they can also pursue higher studies in Science and Technology and Medical and Allied Health too.
But if one student has completed HSc in Humanities, he can go for courses in Arts only.
This is the main thing behind this mindset.
Of course, Arts is a good option for higher education. Apart from tradition BA courses in Languages, Economics,History,Sociology etc. now a days have more choices to select.
A. Journalism and Mass Communication
B. Visual Communication(BSc)
C. Hotel Management(BHM/BSc-HM)
D. Law/ LLB (5 Years Integrated...more -
Arts has a wider scope than commerce and science. In arts we have a wide range of options. we can go for fashion designing, mass communication, teaching, hotel management and we can prepare for competitive exams too. and most impt thing is every stream has its own importance. so you should choose the stream in which u are having interest.

In my opinion science /commerce is better option than arts /humanities because there all and even more options for job than arts and are good for a bright future
-
I think the basic reason for this notion is because there is lot of unawareness of what are the options one can take after arts and humanities and people in India know only about engineer, doctor,IAS etc as a career and they want to be on the safer side

HI All
There is a need of lot career counselling across various sections of the society to break this mindset because even the traditional streams like engineering,B.com etc. are over crowded and its hard to find employment in these areas. -
Arts & Humanities are placed at the bottom of the education pyramid due to variety of factors like possible professional implications, employment opportunities, commercial applications and for other unknown reasons.

Hi,
Other than the fact the wrong notion that a science and commerce course pays more long term the other reason is that the humanities and the arts stream are taught horribly in India.i mean seriously where in the world do you have to mug up everything to vomit it in exams.?.in most schools music classes students are asked to follow routine songs where you can't experiment with yourself and marks are given based on how flashy your notebook is.
