See as far as I know, earlier TIET used to take admission through board % but as years passed they now only take admission on the basis of entrance examination, with 78% in boards and then doing well in entrance exam you may have a solid chance of getting TIET

Honestly, with 78% in boards, getting into Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology through the board merit route is quite difficult.

Cutoffs (especially for popular branches) usually go much higher.

You might have a slight chance in:

Biotechnology
Civil / Chemical (in later rounds, if seats remai
