B- schools in India, should also make work experience as a mandatory criteria for admission in MBA.

I think all the B-schools in India should make work experience as a mandatory criteria for admission in MBA, at the moment it is not a mandatory criteria, and only few B-schools like ISB,Hyderabad; has made it as a mandatory criteria.

.(CONTINUED)An Executive MBA course consists of many older, even graying people. The students therein may not be fully serious about the concepts to be absorbed and to be applied in the job environment. Many of them are only interested in their promotion.Once through with an MBA degree, they ignore most of the concepts, because by way of age the habits have taken over the suggested procedures. If at all they think about the correct procedures to be followed, it is intertwined with the "how" of MANIPULATING the same in the work atmosphere. The sole idea is an ego inflated with an additional degree, to be used for the purpose of "promotion" or" ... view more

MBA is a job oriented course. If there is a strict selection procedure, and not a loose one, the passing out students will match the standards and expectations of the employers during campus interviews. They will then join the lowest ladder of the management rung, and their pick-up of the job experience will be an ANTICIPATED one by the employers. Making work experience mandatory for admission to MBA course would mean that freshers without experience will not be allowed to enter this course. Rather, experienced people who are plain graduates/ post-graduates will be allowed to enter MBA course. But on what basis ? Definitely an entrance test... view more

I would say NO to this.because many students wants to do MBA as their future career path and they study for that very sincerely. Most of the students thinks that they should get a good job after doing this , those who didnt got any job in their graduation course. So I think there should not be any work experience criteria for the MBA

Well. I would say "NO" to this if we are discussing regular mode of education for fresh graduates. There is no doubt that the idea is worth discussion and that experience would play a good role in students picking up managerial theories as they would easily reconcile with the practical aspects they have had during the little work experience before they join for MBA degree. True to a good extent. but I believe that one can imprint better / write clearly on a clean slate. If experience is mandatory then students from all type of careers / work experiences / different nature of jobs etc. would come. And then while the studies take place in a cla... view more

SmritiMatra I slightly differ from your points, please remember MBA is a holistic course, which offer specialization in the field of HR,Marketing, Finance etc, and its a more of a practical course rather than traditional masters theoretical course, so a student who have some work experience in in his area of interest can really do well and understand the concepts well. Please remember at one end we say our country institutes are not in world rankings, at the same time we tend to ignore the teaching pedagogy which all the top institutes adopt, all the top B-schools requires a minimum work experience of 3-5 years. Also as a part of MBA curriculu... view more

It will just mean more red tapism for students. I understand that work experience is a good basis for somebody who is going for Executive MBA because course curriculum does not include basics there. But in case of full-time MBA, where curriculum is designed to let students start from scratch, I think work experience would just mean wastage of two to five more years of students. As they say, put a person on the bottom and he will become a labourer and put him on the top, and he will become a leader. People are certainly capable of starting right at the top. Even companies know where to place fresher MBAs and how to use them, so what is the pro... view more
