Can a BSc. Physics student with no work experience get a seat into IIM-Ahmadabad?

All IIMs go by the CAT score. The basic educational background, is not a matter of great concern. If you take the IIMs, most of the students are from IITs. There is a false perception, that students with a Commerce background, get a head start. If you are looking at IIM (Ahmedabad), you need to score a minimum of 99 percentile in the CAT exam to stand a realistic chance of getting selected. You can also look at other IIMs and get to know their cut-off percentile. The percentile obviously, will vary from year to year.

Yes, Deepak. The student can get a seat. In fact, students from varied background are preferred nowadays. IIMA actually calls directly to top 1% CAT percentile holders from backgrounds other than engineering. You should visit their website for more information.

The two-year Post-graduate Programme in Management (PGP) is a full-time residential course for graduates from all disciplines wishing to choose a career in management. As an eligibility criteria, The candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) category, this is relaxed to 45%], of any recognized University or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. Candidates appearing for the final year bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirement and are awaiting results can also apply. Such candidates must produce a certificate from the Principal/ Head of the Department/ Registrar/ Director of the university/ institution certifying that the candidate is currently in the final year/ is awaiting final results and has obtained at least 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ DA category) based on latest available grades/marks. Such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally only if they submit a certificate latest by June 30, 2016 from the Principal/Registrar of their college/ institute issued on or before June 30, 2016 stating that they have completed all the requirements for obtaining the bachelor’s degree/ equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate. Their admission will be confirmed only when the candidate submits the mark sheet and a certificate of having passed the bachelor’s degree/ equivalent qualification referred to in the certificate issued by the Principal/ Registrar with at least 50% marks (45% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ DA category).
