Can a commerce student pursue software engineering? I have done my graduation in BAF (accounting and finance).

Yes, you can do B.Tech after completing class 12th with commerce, but it will take 6 years to do so.
Directly you can't do B.Tech after class 12th commerce. You can apply for Diploma in engineering course after class 12th commerce, after that you can apply.

Foo for engineering you need 10+2 (maths) so either science stream or diploma, in your case you have to do diploma first then you can go for engineering. If you want to go software field then you can go for MCA also.
