In India, Pharm D course graduates do not have the authority to prescribe medicines independently, as prescribing is a function typically reserved for medical doctors (MDs).
However, Pharm D course professionals play an essential role in optimizing medication therapy, advising healthcare providers on drug management, and counselling patients on proper medication use.
While they cannot prescribe medication, they can recommend drug therapy changes in collaboration with doctors and participate in clinical decision-making to ensure safe and effective treatment.

After D.Pharma, no one can open or run a clinic or even can not prescribe medicine as he/ she is not medical (MBBS/BAMS/BHMS) graduate. He can only run a chemist shop and dispense medicines prescribed by a competent doctor under a valid license of chemist shop. These days many chemists give and prescribe medicines to the patients under very nominal charges, but this is illegal and action is very hard if there is any eventuality.
