There is no universal preference order list for JoSAA counseling. Instead, you are advised to provide a preference order on the basis of your requirements and JEE rank. Here are some useful tips to help you make a preference order list: (a) Check the previous year's opening and closing rank of the IIT, NIT, or IIIT you want to put in preference order. You can check it on the Shiksha website, which provides the closing rank of every IIT, NIT, IIIT, and GFTIS. (b) If you are confused between two colleges, prefer college having higher rank in NIRF. This preference order is only as suggestion to you. You should change your colleges preference order according to your priority and interest in colleges and branches, after that you must fill your colleges in JoSAA counselling. No, your candidature will be rejected as you need to have minimum of 75% in class 12 to be eligible for admisison to the IITs, NIT, IIITs and GFTIs via the JoSAA counselling. Even if you pass JEE Advanced and JEE Main, of you do not have 75% minimum marks in class 12 boards you will no get admissions.

No, one does not have to apply separately at IIT Madras website after JoSAA counselling. This is because the institute follows a common admission process for its BTech course just like the other IITs. Shortlisted students who get a seat through the JoSAA counselling, simply need to report for document verification and pay the acceptance fees. All the details of the students will be forwarded to IIT Madras by JoSAA directly. Information about the orientation, fee payment, and hostel allocation will be mailed online.
