Can I appear for CAT exam while in the 3rd-year of my graduation degree?

The exams of my 6th semester (B.Com) are not over yet.

    Yes, you can apply for CAT exam, while you are in third year of your graduation.

    If the degree you are pursuing is of 4 years in duration, then you can only apply in 4th year, otherwise yes, you can apply in the 3rd year. The eligibility is to apply in the last year of your college.

    The short answer is 'yes'. Even if you are in 3rd year of your college, you can still give CAT exam.

    Yes, you can apply. The minimum requirement for CAT exam is a candidate should have complete their graduation or must be in final year, so you can apply for CAT exam. All the best.

There are a very few IIMs which have CAT cutoff of 85 percentile. These are IIM Nagpur, IIM Amritsar and IIM Bodh Gaya. Since these IIMs have been launched in the last decade, the cut offs are low for admission to MBA/PGP courses. For admission to MBA (or PGP) at IIM Calcutta, the CAT test is scheduled on November 30, 2025. Aspirants of IIM Calcutta are required to appear for the exam in Computer Based Testing mode at the allotted test centres. CAT exam will be held in three slots:

  • Morning slot: 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM
  • Afternoon slot: 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM
  • Evening slot: 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM

Earlier, the CAT exam used to be of 180 minutes with 100 questions but in 2020, both exam duration and number of questions were reduced due to COVID-19 pandemic. Now, starting CAT 2022, the total number of questions stands at 66 as part of CAT pattern.

The college accepts several other entrance exams for admission to MBA courses, such as XAT, CMAT, ATMA, GMAT, etc. Moreover, CAT is one of the accepted entrance exams for admission to the MBA course. However, it is not compulsory. Therefore, candidates with valid scores in any of the entrance exams can get admission to the MBA course.
