Clear GATE, state or institute level equivalent with a good score and you will become eligible for an M.Tech programme. Some companies accept GATE scores for their recruitment process.

Well,the "GATE" Exam is an entrance for two things:
1. placement in the PSU sectors
2. Admission to the M.Tech courses at IITs,NITs,etc
So very clearly, one can only sit for the GATE Exam after B.Tech as it is the entrance for the corresponding master course, I.e M.Tech. Infact going for GATE after B.Tech is very much encouraged among students who want to further their studies in the technical line in INDIA.
