Can I apply for student visa of Canada with 5.5 band in IELTS?

I scored 7.1 SPI in my B.Tech in ME.

You must have atleast 6.5 score in IELTS, that's the minimum prerequisite for a very few universities, most of them ask for 7 and above for MS courses.

Its very difficult to get visa from Canadian Embassy for students having 5.5 bands. But its very possible with atleast 6.5 bands.

It depends on the programme. English-taught courses require proof of English language proficiency.

Just check the admission requirements of the programme first. If it is mentioned that language of study will be English then you need to appear in IELTS.
