Can I become a software engineer? If yes, which course should I pursue?

I have done M.Sc in mathematics, 2-year PGDCA (2008 pass out) and MCA through correspondence (2012 pass out).

There are multiple IT training companies which prepare fresher with skills required by IT industry. They produce Ready to Deploy resource (RTD). You may join any RTD company and opt for Automation Testing courses to join IT companies.

Do I need any certification to get into IT companies? If yes, can you suggest some training institutes offering decent placements? I live in Mumbai.
