The study of history, geography, and civics is not required. Even if you have a PCM degree, you can still take the UPSC Civil Services Exam IAS. Candidates can apply for the exam if they have a graduation degree in any field of education, but they must choose their own subjects to take the exam.

  • It is not mandatory to study History, Geography and Civics. You are eligible for UPSC Civil Services Exam IAS even with PCM degree. Candidates with a graduation degree in any stream of education can apply for the exam, as they have to select their respective subjects to appear for the exam.

You have high chances of cracking Civil Services examinations if you are excellent (not good) in Humanities subjects. Records published by UPSC indicates, every year lot of humanities graduates are able to become IAS officer.
