    Yes, you can do that. Use your current ECE knowledge to prepare for GATE in electronics. You can take image processing specialisation in ECE department. In IIT-Kharagpur, we have an M.Tech course called visual information processing and embedded systems. You will have subjects such as digital image processing, pattern recognition, computer communication and networking. You can also take electives such as "Data Structures", "Design and Analysis of Algorithms", Operating Systems, Machine Intelligence, etc. In fact, most of the students opt for these subjects because they want to go for a software job.
