For some majors, especially those in management and engineering, direct admission to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) is feasible. Candidates may be admitted to undergraduate programs merit-based for management programs or based on their scores in qualifying exams, such as the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) for engineering. However, entrance exams such as GATE or the university's entrance exams are frequently used to determine admittance to postgraduate programs. Note that there can be a cap on seats and certain requirements for immediate admission.

No, the admission process is completely entrance-based for all UG, PG and doctoral-level courses offered by MAKAUT campus and its affiliated colleges. The university conducts CET and JEMAT exams for admission to BSc, BBA, BCA, MSc and MBA progammes. Additionally, exams such as WBJEE, PGET, UGC NET and GATE, etc., are considered for admission to UG, PG and doctoral-level courses. However, students can reach out to MAKAUT admission office for more details on any management quota seats (if available).
