Established in 1969, IHM Lucknow is associated with the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) and operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and Uttar Pradesh. India Today 2021 has put the institute in the 6th place for hotel management.

One can get direct admission from the residual seats or they have to attend NCHM JEE which is conducted by the government and the entrance exam conducted by the college.
For the BSc and MSc programs, admission is based on the NCHMCT JEE exam.
For the Diploma and PG Diploma programs, admission is based on merit.
There is a separate scheme of direct admission for the MSc program offered jointly by NCHMCT and IGNOU.
