Most applicants *cannot get direct admission* to M.E./M.Tech in the Division of Mechanical Sciences in IISc since an *excellent GATE score is required*. It is, however, offered with exceptions: *Candidates who have completed Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) and have a CGPA of 8.0 or above* are exempted to make an application without the GATE, instead of being analyzed as to the career, and then an interview takes place. Moreover another direct admission is possible through *sponsored candidates* facing relevant experience in the government/industry. In case of regular applicants, GATE is very important.

Direct admission without a GATE score is rare and generally not the norm for IISc. However, under special circumstances such as government-sponsored candidates, foreign nationals, or students with extraordinary academic or research records there might be alternate routes. The standard path remains through national exams like GATE. IISc prioritises merit and capability, so if you have an impressive profile or industry sponsorship, you can reach out to the admissions office. They are supportive and responsive if your academic drive matches their vision.
