You can check the previous year's cutoffs category wise for NIT'S at
https://josaa.nic.in/Result/Result/OpeningClosingRankArchieve.aspx
there you may get an idea of your selection. Also keep track of the counseling procedure, the dates. BEST OF LUCK.
